Brasscom publishes its first study analyzing the Brazilian offshore outsourcing market in partnership with IDC and the Ministry of Science and Technology
Brazil’s offshore outsourcing market turned over about US$ 1.4 billion in 2008, up 75% on 2007. This data comes from a study published by Brasscom along with the Brazilian Government, supported by the MCT, MDIC, BNDES and ABDI. Commissioned for the International Data Corporation (IDC), the study provides strategic data for the country, focusing on the domestic market, and shall become a reference point for the Brazilian ICT sector.
According to the IDC, Brazil’s political stability and economic growth have attracted investments in the sector and made Brazil a strong alternative for the offshore market, which turned over about R$ 2.3 billion last year - 93% being in IT services, and the remainder being BPO. The USA accounted for most of the demand for offshore outsourcing, buying approximately R$ 1.8 billion in services.
Systems development projects, infrastructure maintenance and management accounted for most of the services exported by Brazil, at R$ 876 million, R$ 608 million, and R$ 366 million, respectively. The BPO offshore market accounted for R$ 150 million of the total generated. Total revenue in the offshore development services sector was R$ 1.65 billion, with COBOL and Java leading the supply of technology, accounting for R$ 554 million and R$ 345 million, respectively.
According to the IDC, Brazil’s attractive business environment offers it advantages over other emerging countries. The sturdy domestic market, governmental incentives, the convenient time difference, and cultural compatibility allow the country to compete on a level playing field on the global market.
